Knoxville Chapter –Volunteer Activity – American Red Cross (ARC)
On November 22, 2019 the Knoxville Chapter coordinated volunteer activities for the American Red Cross. Debbie Rutherford coordinated the effort for TVARA. TVA employees also joined in the effort as part of TVA’s “Day of Serving”. Four TVA retirees volunteers and eight TVA employee volunteers spent the day assisting Red Cross staff in Knoxville, TN.
Some of the volunteers packaged “Comfort Kits” that are given to recipients after natural disasters. Others volunteered on the “Missing Maps” project. This project maps parts of the world that have no map data (i.e.: roads, waterways, buildings, etc.). Many of these areas are vulnerable to natural disasters, conflict, and disease epidemics. First responders use this information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts and to deliver lifesaving aid.
