Retirees are often asked questions about TVA by friends, colleagues and neighbors in communities where they live. We wanted to provide you with this recently updated information to assist you in responding.

  · TVA operates as a federal corporation but is funded by revenue from power sales. TVA does not receive any federal appropriations.

· Public power is a unique competitive advantage for our region, providing low rates and management of such services as the river system, flood control, navigation, and land management – all without taking annual appropriated federal funding. This helps attract jobs and economic investment and offers some of the lowest electricity rates in the country.

· TVA is the third-largest generator of power in the United States serving more than 10 million people.

· TVA manages over 16,000 miles of transmission lines – one of the largest transmission systems in the U.S.

· TVA prevents over $300 million in flood loss each year.

· Management of public lands and waters supports $12 billion in economic activity a year and over 130,500 jobs.

· TVA’s retail rates are lower than those paid by over 80% of customers of the top 100 U.S. utilities, and industrial rates are lower than those paid by over 90% of customers of the top 100 U.S. utilities.

We hope you find this information helpful. Retirees are encouraged to be proactive in explaining TVA’s past and future value to the communities it serves.
